Adoptive parents Nate and Lindsey Williams received an AGCI Special Treasures adoption grant to help bring their youngest son, Ethan, home from China. They recently shared the following letter of gratitude with our team!
Ethan is our youngest son who was brought home with the help of the Special Treasures Grant in 2017. He is now 4 years old and is healthy, happy, and brings us joy every day.
Ethan was born with a congenital heart defect that was/is very complex. There are only a few surgeons in the world who perform the necessary repair for his particular condition. We happen to live two hours from the best in the world at Stanford Children’s Hospital.
In China, he was deemed inoperable and likely would have never received any attempt to fix his heart. His development was impacted negatively both from a physical and social/cognitive standpoint due to the lack of oxygen during the first few years of life. Since his surgery a year and a half ago, Ethan has grown by leaps and bounds in all areas of his development.
He is now on the growth charts, and he is working on his speech and social skills with the help of preschool, speech and occupational therapy, as well as therapeutic horseback riding to help with his core and confidence.
We are getting ready to celebrate Ethan’s two-year Gotcha Day in only a few days and what we have seen in the life of that boy has been nothing short of a miracle. We cannot even begin to express the gratitude to all of the people who helped us bring him home. The financial investment of adoption is often more than many adoptive families can shoulder on their own. Those that fund these grants are literally an answer to our prayers. From where we are standing, they are the hands and feet of God showing up right when we need it most.
