HOW TO ADOPT A CHILD

Adoption can feel overwhelming. We’re here to help! AGCI is committed to being with you every step of the way on your journey to adopt a child. Below you’ll find the initial first steps for beginning your international adoption journey!
1. Submit a Free Preliminary Adoption Application

AGCI adoption staff will review this application to determine your family’s eligibility for specific adoption programs. Each country has its own set of eligibility requirements—a pre-app allows our inquiry team to provide direction on the international adoption programs that would best fit your family.

2. One-On-One Consult with Our Adoption Team

Upon receipt of your pre-app, a member of our adoption team will reach out to you within one business day to discuss the adoption programs that might be the best fit for your family.

3. Speak with our Financial Expert

Adoption costs can feel overwhelming. Our Financial Expert can provide resources and tools to help you learn more about how adopting a child can become financially feasible for your family.

Talk with your Adoption Advisor to schedule a financial consultation.

4. Apply—Submit your Adoption Application!

Prospective adoptive parents must complete the formal application and submit a $350 non-refundable adoption application fee. Upon application approval, you have officially begun your international adoption journey!

5. Turn in Orientation Packet

Next, you will receive an international adoption orientation packet that includes the adoption service agreement and a specific service plan for your family. Your Adoption Program Case Manager will schedule an orientation call to cover the documents contained in the orientation packet. Once you’ve completed and notarized all documents, you will mail the documents to AGCI with the required fees.

6. Begin your Home Study and Complete Paperwork

AGCI is licensed to perform adoption home studies in seven states – Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, OhioOregon, Texas, and Washington. Adoptive parents who live outside these states will choose a home study agency from AGCI’s approved list of adoption home study agencies.

7. Wait to be matched with your adopted child!

This is the best and often the hardest part of the adoption process. Please know that we are here for you every step of the way! We are so grateful for the opportunity to walk this amazing journey with you!

“The #1 one thing for us was working with our AGCI Case Manager. She’s amazing. Her heart for these kids is just obvious and you can tell how hard she works to not just find a family, but the right family. The support has been amazing throughout the process. The follow-up calls are wonderful, everyone is so excited to get updates. You can tell that it’s all child-centered.”
