Adoption can feel overwhelming. We’re here to help! AGCI is committed to being with you every step of the way on your journey to adopt a child. Below you’ll find the initial first steps for beginning your adoption journey!
1. Submit a Free Preliminary Application

AGCI staff will review this application to determine your family’s eligibility for specific adoption programs. Each country has its own set of eligibility requirements—a pre-app allows our inquiry team to provide direction on the adoption programs that would best fit your family.

2. One-On-One Consult with Our Adoption Team

Upon receipt of your pre-app, a member of our adoption team will reach out to you within one business day to discuss the adoption programs that might be the best fit for your family.

3. Speak with our Financial Expert

Adoption costs can feel overwhelming. Our Financial Expert can provide resources and tools to help you learn more about how adoption can become financially feasible for your family.

Talk with your Adoption Advisor to schedule a financial consultation.

4. Apply—Submit your Adoption Application!

Prospective adoptive parents must complete the formal application and submit a $350 non-refundable adoption application fee. Upon application approval, you have officially begun your adoption journey!

5. Turn in Orientation Packet

Next, you will receive an orientation packet that includes the adoption service agreement and a specific service plan for your family. Your Program Case Manager will schedule an orientation call to cover the documents contained in the orientation packet. Once you’ve completed and notarized all documents, you will mail the documents to AGCI with the required fees.

6. Begin your Home Study and Complete Paperwork

AGCI is licensed to perform home studies in seven states – Oregon, Washington, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Texas and Kentucky. Adoptive parents who live outside these states will choose a home study agency from AGCI’s approved list of adoption agencies.

7. Wait to be matched with your child!

This is the best and often the hardest part of the adoption process. Please know that we are here for you every step of the way! We are so grateful for the opportunity to walk this amazing journey with you!

“The thing I enjoyed most about working with AGCI was the relationships that I have gained through AGCI. I don’t mean just with other adopted families, but relationships with the directors and case managers and in country staff and anyone at all connected to our journey. I feel like AGCI does such a wonderful job cultivating those relationships. Even though I live in Illinois and have never met many of these people, I feel like I have gotten to know them so well during the whole process. And you don’t get that from other agencies. I know because I called many of them before deciding to choose AGCI and many didn’t even call me back. AGCI was prompt in returning calls and emails and scheduling meetings. Even during the longer waiting period when there wasn’t much to be done they would check in and just say, “hey, how’s it goin?” and “we haven’t forgotten about you– we’re with you.’”
