How We Disrupt Trauma
The foundation of disruptive change: healed people heal children.
We believe the power of the Holy Spirit and the application of best care practices allow healing to be possible not just for children, but for parents, caregivers, and advocates too! That’s why we say that healed people heal people—because when adults heal, they can disrupt trauma for God’s precious children.
We stand up for every child we serve by walking beside them on a path to healing.
Let’s be clear—
this is how we disrupt trauma:
Start with one caring adult.
Children who have experienced trauma need safe adults to heal. Period.
Our first step in disrupting trauma is to be safe adults for children who have experienced trauma and walk with others on their own journey to becoming a safe adult.
When parents, caregivers, and child welfare professionals are supported in their own healing journey (ourselves included), we see adults transformed into resilient caregivers and advocates, able to understand and compassionately respond to the unique needs of the children in their care.
When adults heal, we see children experience transformation.
Understand this child’s needs.
For children who have experienced trauma, sleepless nights, anxious days, illness, anger, and confusion are constant. Trauma’s despair takes its own shape in the life of every child. We connect with children right where they are, present in their hurt, a steady hand in the storm, reminding them they are God’s beloved.
A unique plan for the whole child.
Just as trauma affects every aspect of a child, so should their path to healing. We apply ingenuity and adaptability to create a unique and comprehensive plan for every child that addresses:
Behavioral Needs
Emotional Needs
Relational Needs
Physical Needs
Spiritual Needs
Academic Needs
Relentlessly meet the need.
The pathway to healing for each child is a winding road with twists, turns, and sometimes even setbacks. We never give up pursuing the best for this child now.
Connect children with family.
Every child needs the love, support, and stability of a family. We create a pathway to safety, connection, and permanency for each child across the entire continuum of care by:
Keeping children within their family of origin.
Creating new pathways to family for children.
Reimagining family for children.
We are doing this work all around the world to multiply the impact.
Global Impact
Each child we see healed, each intervention we see work, and each family we see restored accelerates our relentless commitment to learning, improving, and developing new ways to unlock futures for the children we’re called to stand up for now.

Disrupting trauma systemically.
There are millions of children around the world today facing the darkness of trauma alone, often failed by the systems meant to protect them.
But we believe systems are ultimately made up of people—people on a path to healing of their own.
This is why we partner with thousands of parents, caregivers, professionals, and advocates to unlock new possibilities for children, families, communities, and systems across the globe.
AGCI is honored to do this work in partnership with the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development as a TBRI ® Ambassador Organization. Trust-Based Relational Intervention®
(TBRI ®) is a cornerstone of how our global team works to disrupt trauma.
