Meeting the Need Behind the Behavior

Our team in Colombia recently initiated a collaboration with local schools to educate teachers on the principles of trauma-informed care.

Many of the children in these communities have experienced abuse, homelessness, starvation, and more. And often, the child who has experienced the most pain is the same child who "acts out" and "gets in trouble."

The last 30+ years of working to disrupt trauma have shown us that deep-seated trauma often presents itself through challenging behaviors. Because of this, we know that the child "causing problems" is not a "bad kid"; they're just hurting.

And they need someone to meet them and care for them wherever they are right now.

By equipping and strengthening teachers' ability to see the needs behind the behavior, we are praying God will work through the Holy Spirit to unlock healing from the trauma they've experienced.
