Yohannes* (9) was born with spina bifida. His hands didn’t grow fully, so he has only two fingers on his left hand and three fingers on his right hand.

After Yohannes was born, his dad left him, his brother, and his mom behind and disappeared. He couldn’t comprehend the burden of raising a child with special needs.

But, Yohannes's mom was courageous and dedicated to raising him and his brother. To keep the family afloat, she began searching for daily labor work, but it was difficult for her to find and maintain a job with her two little boys.

At this point, survival got harder. Paying rent became difficult. The whole family began to starve. The only viable option for the family was to go out to the streets and beg for food. Yohannes had no hope for the future.

Yohannes enjoys attending school. He goes to church with his family every Sunday and is part of the kids' choir. Yohannes's favorite Bible verse is Psalm 23, and he says God really is his shepherd.
