Why I Sponsor

AGCI Sponsor and Advocate Rachael Cruthirds has sponsored with AGCI since 2016! She shared her experience as a sponsor with us.

“My sophomore year in college, I wanted to go on a mission trip. I found AGCI and was able to go on a mission trip to Bulgaria.

I really didn’t know what I was looking for, but I knew I wanted to get involved and so I felt like missions trip was the first step in finding different ways to reach out. It was such an amazing trip and emotional and eye opening. We visited 3 different orphanages and helped in putting together an art therapy room. It was fun to get hands on and also step back and understand how thing were working there.

From there, I stayed involved and eventually became a sponsor. I started sponsoring a little boy in Haiti. He has since been adopted which was cool to see. I then began sponsoring a little girl and am still sponsoring her.

It was a very intentional choice for me to sponsor through All God’s Children. AGCI gives such great updates and made me really feel involved. AGCI is so on the ball in keeping me up-to-date and involved in projects that are happening. I can just see all of the real change that’s happening. The fact that I was sponsoring a little boy who has since been adopted is amazing. Or with the Dream Home—they just had their first college graduate! I feel like actually seeing those changes means so much. It’s tangible and it makes sponsorship more relatable and more involved.

Last year, I quit my job to begin restructuring my life to make it more what I wanted it to be. I’ve had a sponsorship poster on my fridge and having that external reason of goals to work on, and knowing I can provide for someone else has meant a lot to me.  I now teach yoga and my family classes are available at no cost for anyone who has adopted or is a foster parent!”
