PROVIDE FAMILY-LIKE CARE
After bouncing back and forth between family-care and Colombia’s child welfare system, Christian landed in AGCI’s partner home when he was 6 years old. He presented very extreme behaviors, had a diagnosis of ADHD, behavioral disorder, and wasn’t able to be enrolled in school due to his aggression. AGCI’s team provided Christian’s caregivers with individual coaching and support, helping them to understand how his history might be driving his behaviors. Twelve months later Christian’s outbursts subsided and his playful and caring personality came shining through.

He told me, “Albita, is it important that I don’t take things from the other children?” I said, “yes, it is very important.” And he said, “now I understand why.” So I asked him, “why?” Christian told me, “because my mom is in jail because she would steal things from people.” One night we were having one of our conversations and he told me, “Albita, in my life I will never forget you.” All that he needed was love.”
