Tragically, Nepal’s orphans continue to be in great need. Nepal has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world at 6.4% and struggles immensely with proper nutrition and access to reliable food sources. Over half of the children under the age of 5 are malnourished and 34% of Nepal’s children are forced into child labor. Nepal’s devastating 2015 earthquake worsened an already delicate system by leaving an additional 1.1 million children in need of assistance.
HOW WE’RE INTERVENING FOR ORPHANS IN NEPAL
AGCI has intervened for Nepal’s orphans by providing loving, family-like care to over 103 orphans through our holistic, elevated care model. This care is funded entirely through our Care Sponsorship program which provides children at Sagarmatha Children’s Home with the resources they need to thrive and the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty! By partnering with Sagarmatha, we’ve also helped over 60 children reunite with their families of origin. In response to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that took over 8,700 lives and left over 2.8 million people in need of humanitarian aid, AGCI supporters rallied to raise much-needed emergency aid.
Children at Sagarmatha Children’s Home recently celebrated Tihar! Tihar is a five-day-long Hindu festival celebrated throughout Nepal. This is the second biggest Nepalese festival, and to celebrate, people make patterns on floors or courtyards and create sacred welcoming areas. Candles are also lit both inside and outside the home to illuminate the night!
For over a decade, AGCI has worked with Sagarmatha Children’s Home to provide shelter, education, food, and loving care for homeless and abandoned children in Nepal. In a country where more than 5,000 children are working and living on the streets, this home provides critical services and loving, life-changing care.
Our sponsorship program supports the children at Sagarmatha with 24/7 holistic care, loving caretakers, three balanced meals a day, education, quality medical care, and necessary repairs due to the devastating 2015 earthquake.
This support is truly life changing! Sapna Rana, the Director of Sagarmatha Children’s Home shared with us, “We thank the Lord for our sponsors every day! Without sponsorship, we would not be able to provide the children at Sagarmatha with this level of care. Sponsorship allows us to hire and train the very best caregivers, provide the children with healthy food, afford their school fees and medical care if they need it. This care helps the children grow up healthy and happy. It gives them hope.”
The care at Sagarmatha is funded through Care Sponsorship! You can help ensure orphans in Nepal receive life-saving care by becoming a sponsor.
Kabita has flourished thanks to the loving care at our Hannah’s Hope partner home! Abandoned when she was just a few days old, Kabita’s care has been entirely funded through sponsorship. Through the support of sponsors, Kabita is able to attend school, enjoy healthy meals, and receive life changing 24/7 loving care!
