INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION FROM BULGARIA

“We would share with all families considering adoption that AGCI is the perfect agency to choose. They are very knowledgable, loving, and truly care for each child they are working for. Know that each step and tedious amounts of work is worth it–seeing and holding your child for the first time will melt your heart. Your time and wait invested is not wasted. Go for it and you will be blessed.” — Courtney McArthy, AGCI Adoptive Mom

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

As Bulgaria moves towards placing more children into foster care while they wait for their forever families, AGCI supports this transition by ensuring that the children still in institutions receive the best possible care. AGCI has improved orphan care in government orphanages through food and nutrition support, supplying diapers, clothing, and bedding, and providing donations for increasing the caregiver ratio. This elevated care helps children thrive while they wait for their forever families!

Since 1991, AGCI has placed over 620 children from Bulgaria with their adoptive families. Last year, all of the children adopted through AGCI’s Bulgaria program were 2 years old at the time of placement. Additionally, there are so many grants available to help make adoption an affordable option—over the past two years, families adopting through AGCI’s Bulgaria program have received over $104,838 in adoption grants.

  • Children ages 2 to 14 years old and sibling groups are waiting.
  • Adoption timelines can vary depending on an adoptive family’s openness to factors such as gender, age, and medical conditions.
  • Each month we receive information from Bulgaria about waiting children for whom we can advocate.
  • AGCI places children in Bulgaria through the MOJ registration process and by advocating for waiting children.
  • Timeframe: 1-5 years.
  • Complete a FREE Pre-App to view waiting kids.

“When we submitted our application to AGCI in February of 2011, we had no clue what we were getting into. But what we found was that AGCI is not only an amazing agency that offers continual advice and support, but they were both our cheerleaders and our “shoulder to cry on” so to speak. Soojin, our caseworker, was and is amazing and being able to work with her made a sometimes extremely difficult process a lot easier. She was always available to answer any of our crazy questions, and she did it with enthusiasm and sincerity. And, although we know she has a large number of families and cases, she always made us feel like ours was important. We were never just a number to her.”
— Patrick and Courtney Davis, AGCI Adoptive Parents
