Adopt a Child in Oregon

free-packetfree-adopt-app

AGCI partners with the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) to provide an opportunity for families living in Oregon to pursue an adoption of a child or children from the foster care system. The State of Oregon currently cares for hundreds of foster children and approximately 100 of those children are waiting to be placed into permanent adoptive homes.

Families in the Oregon program are able to choose the child(ren) they are interested in adopting and would like to request more information about.

To determine your eligibility and view photos of waiting children, please submit a FREE Pre-Application.

*AGCI is a SNAC (Special Needs Adoption Coalition) agency.

  • Available Children for Adoption

Children available for adoption range in age from 6 months to 17 years and come from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds. There are also many sibling groups waiting for a permanent family. More than half of the children currently available are ages 6 and younger.

Families who enter this program must be open to adopting a child up to at least the age of 3.

The most current breakdown of ages in the program is:
    • 24 children ages 0 to 3
    • 23 children ages 4 to 6
    • 24 children ages 7 to 10
    • 15 children ages 11 to 15

  • Adoption Process

Each family’s time frame for an adoption is unknown as the DHS determines if a family is chosen to parent a child.

    Step 1
    Complete home study process.

    Step 2
Once the home study is approved, your family can receive updates on children available for adoption. You may then make a request to your case manager to be considered as an adoptive family for children available for adoption.

    Step 3
Families may be selected for a child by an adoption committee or through a review by the child’s state caseworker.

    Step 4
Once your family is chosen by the adoption committee/review, placement of the child in your home will happen in approximately two to eight weeks.

    Step 5
Welcome home! Upon placement of the child in your home, monthly post-placement visits are required for a minimum of 6 months and/or until the adoption is finalized.
